How can an app contribute to opening up your collection?
In a hospital, patients and visitors spend a lot of time waiting in the various areas. There’s plenty of time to explore the collection using the Special Guests app.
Special Guest app
In association with Radboud UMC and INTK, the Special Guests app was developed and launched at Radboud UMC (Radboud University Medical Centre) on 11 November 2015. Sixteen children aged between 5 and 17 shared their stories about flippers and gloves, a man made of cement, ladders to the blue sky and lots more. The stories were inspired by works of art from the collections in the Van Abbemuseum Eindhoven and Radboud UMC in Nijmegen: ranging from the beautiful to the modern, and from the enigmatic to the moving. You don’t have to be an art connoisseur to listen to these young heroes talking about the vast array of things they can see happening in the works of art.
Samenwerking met Radboud UMC
This app is the result of a collaboration between Radboudumc and the Van Abbemuseum. Both organisations opened their doors to let children from the Amalia Children’s Hospital and several schools in Eindhoven explore their art collections.
The museum app is based on No Kiddin’ – an audio tour through the eyes of children.

The Unlimited from Abbe programme is sponsored by participants in the BankGiro Lottery. In April 2014, the programme coordinator Marleen Hartjes used this contribution to start preparations for the Special Guests programme, which was opened to the public in October of the same year.
